The Methodist Children's Home of Costa Rica
We are thrilled to be involved with the development of the Methodist Children's Home, a project of the Costa Rican Methodist Church. The purpose of the Home is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children who have been declared legally abandoned. Following the Biblical promise about "setting the lonely in families," (Ps.68:6), the project fills a particular need for loving homes among those children who have moved through the child welfare system yet have not been adopted. For this reason we also place an emphasis on receiving sibling groups. |
Currently, we have two houses operating with sets of house mothers and twenty-three children who have been placed in our care by the child welfare agency. The goal is eventually to have five houses operating in the same way, for a total of sixty children. All of the children's basic needs are met in the Home, but beyond this we seek to instill in them a deep sense of God's love for each of them, as well as to promote social and personal behaviors that will help them towards a better future. |
